(1) Principle of sterilization:
Alcohol disinfectants rely on three functions to kill microorganisms:
①Destroy the peptide of protein and denature it;
②Invade the cells of the bacteria, release the water film on the surface of the protein, make it inactive, and cause the metabolism of microorganisms;
③Bacteriolysis.
(2) Main advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages: ①It has a medium- and quick-acting bactericidal effect; ②It is non-toxic, non-irritating, and non-corrosive to metals;
Disadvantages: ①Affected by organic matter; ②Volatile and unstable.
(3) Bactericidal effect Ethanol is a moderately effective disinfectant, which can kill bacterial propagules, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and most fungi and viruses, but cannot kill bacterial spores, and cannot inactivate hepatitis B virus in a short time.
(4) Scope of application: suitable for Disinfection of skin, environmental surfaces and medical equipment.
(5) Use method Disinfection treatment: Commonly used disinfection methods include soaking and wiping.
①Soaking method: Put the items to be disinfected into a container with ethanol solution and cover it. For disinfection of medical equipment and other items contaminated by bacterial propagules, soak in 70% ethanol solution for more than 10 minutes; for surgical hand washing and disinfection, soak in 75% ethanol solution for 5 minutes.
②Wipe method: disinfect the skin, wipe with 75% ethanol cotton ball.
(6) Matters needing attention:
①It should be stored in a container with a lid and replaced in time;
②Do not use for disinfection and sterilization of surgical instruments;
③Do not use for disinfection of surfaces coated with alcohol-soluble paint;
④ When immersing and disinfecting, do not carry too much moisture in the items;
⑤ Do not use for disinfection of surfaces contaminated by organic matter such as blood, pus, feces, etc. Before the items are disinfected, the organic matter adhering on the surface should be removed.
